A while back I wrote about taking part in a mexican wave of camera flashes over the Brooklyn bridge during my visit to New York last year. Well, I just came across the summary/photos of the night. You can get all the info on the Improv Everywhere website: http://improveverywhere.com/2008/05/29/the-camera-flash-experiment/
i know it's a big call, but this is officially THE worst song ever made. this is it. it's pretend hip-hop with pretend screaming, topped off with a large dose of auto-tune. all done by kids with fashion fringes and neon clothes. who drive around in land rovers even though they're probably not old enough to drive.
and the video is just the icing on the cake. it looks exactly like what a bunch of 13 year olds would make for a song like this. notice the two guys who always follow the other two around and seem to be in the band, even though they do nothing (except one always has girls under each arm - huh?). especially watch out for the guy in the blue shirt who looks like the daggy kid the other guy's mum's forced them to hang around with. his dance moves are a highlight. and why do they start choking a girl in the bridge? also notice how most of the girls look incredibly bored when they're dancing in the background. in fact, there's so much to notice that's wrong, you may need to watch it a few times. "the blood brothers make music that will save us all". - Henry Rollins. That's about as much description as you need. such a shame they're not around anymore.
i never got around to finishing up my trip blogs. i traveled around a lot more in europe and therefore had less access to the internet and no home base to do blogs from. i'm writing this now in 2009 as i have decided to revive my blog, focusing more on music this time around. i've been bringing across previous posts/reviews from other sites, but i decided i'd better give some closure to this story before i move on. suffice it to say the rest of the trip was as awesome as the beginning. i'm not gonna go into too much detail about actions, but musically i got to see some great things. a local band called The Bookhouse Boys in London, and Krafty kuts in Brighton. I don't have any photos of either, but here's a video clip from The Bookhouse Boys, I thought they were fantastic.
I also went to the O2 wireless festival over 2 days in Hyde park in London, where I saw some fantastic acts, including:
Saul Williams
Jay-Z ("best rapper alive")
Jaguar Love (featuring former members of The Blood Brothers and Pretty Girls Make Graves)
Beck. Morrissey headlined the second day, but he turned out to be a bit of a wingeing old bore really.
oh, and here's the massive box of stuff i purchased overseas and sent home.
